Chanalai Hillside Resort, Karon Beach ★★★★

Pretty good location, staff was polite, breakfast was okay. Also WiFi worked very well, despite the rooms were full occupied.

I think the hotel needs a bit renovation and minor repairs: some details looks rusty, plumbing is leaking, also worth to note that hotel is not entirely clean (especially staircase areas). And I disliked very powerful AC which made it very very cold and there is no way to turn it weaker. Sometimes we had to catch the staff to ask for cleaning, and our room not always was cleaned when we went out. Also transparent bathroom doors.. it was not very comfortable for a couple stay. This was a little bit strange.

I was given a nice room on 2nd floor close to the entrance and breakfast room. Very convienient and very quiet even though it was close to the pool.

The room was not cleaned every day and I have to remain them every day to go and fix my room which they did not do every day. That should no be like this.

The pool is really cool, and the beds are comfortable.

First day: - The shower drain was blocked. - The shower was licking from top and kept dripping after shut. - The toilet flush was also dripping. - Most TV channels were not working, with a message "There's a new channel list available" and I literally pressed every single button on the remote control - nothing changed. - I had a "Do not disturb" sign on my door, so obviously they couldn't replace the daily water bottles. I asked the reception, TWICE, and I only got the water after going myself to the reception and complaining (almost 2 hours after my first request). Nicky, who worked at the front desk, got herself the water and gave me. She was one of the good staff that helped me solve all the sort of problems I unfortunately had. - The toilet flush started to flush continuously. By this time I asked for a new room, and they promptly said "yes". It was 8:30am. They said the room would be ready by 1pm. Then changed for 2pm. I had the room ready by 3pm.... - the AC is REALLY loud, even on "low fan" and 25C. Like, REALLY loud. Besides the noise, it kept the room cool. For me, the hotel is lacking a remodeling and maintenance. Despite the bathroom and tv problems I reported, the pool tiles were falling off (kids played the "let's dive and look for missing tiles" game), we collected more than 80 pieces plus some weird wires from the bottom of the pool.

Daily cleaning, no issues during stay. Baby bed was provided and it was great for our 2 y.o. daugther. Great location, mini-market next door, but not on a bisy street, so almost no traffic near hotel.

Breakfasts were almost always the same. "Juices" were a joke, coffee was good though. Some staff at reception could barely speak english. No early check-in, not even for extra pay, although requested. Just reserve 1 more day behofehand if you need this option.

It was quiet and the size of the room was ok. The bed was huge.

The location is not optimal and the staff should be able to communicate in English, although they were nice

The cleanliness was satisfactory, the breakfast offered a varied and delicious selection, the staff was friendly from the beginning, and the location, near the beach, added to the overall positive stay. I would rate it a 2 out of 4.

Regrettably, my stay had some notable shortcomings. Despite being listed as included amenities, bathrobes and slippers were missing. Despite our request, the staff forgot to bring them. Toward the end of our stay, the room wasn't cleaned, and there was a lapse in providing drinking water. The noise from neighboring rooms was a significant issue, as the separation between rooms was minimal, impacting the overall comfort of the stay.

Swimming pool, balcony

No bide in toilet, can`t flush toiletpaper down, and separated shower and toilet. This 3 things together could be a problem.

Good location! Shop, motorbike rentals and restaurants within 10-100m. Beach is also within walking distance but hotel is aside from main street so its quiet in the hotel. Clean nice room, lovely balcony (although we didn't have pool view). Great pool where you can play ball but sunbathing area quite small between hotel buildings, so there isn't sun all the time. Alternative is rooftop pool, but there's also not so many sunbeds. We enjoyed our stay!

Very poor breakfast - No cheese, no bacon, no porridge, no boiled eggs. Bathroom facilities were changed only once at our last day (we stayed 8 days)

The hotel was excellent, walking distance to the beach, close to amenities like restaurants and shopping areas, and the staff where very helpful with our queries, good value for money. Would definitely stay there again!

There was nothing to criticize about our stay there!

Room was perfect with access to the pool. Staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for you particularly Jaxsy on reception and also the restaurant staff. The location was good - only 10 minute walk to a beautiful beach and not far from the main road with all the bars and restaurants (there are a few just near the hotel too and a handy supermarket just over the road). Breakfast is also very good with good coffee!

Really comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast with international and thai options. Good and quiet area. Really close to one side of Karon beach which wasn't crowded at all. The best restaurant right in front of the hotel. Couple of shops with souvenirs, 7 eleven and motorbike hire next to the hotel. I do recommend.

The views, the bar, the staff... everything was spectacular

It’s a bit of a steep climb if you want to walk back from the town. It was difficult as a solo traveler to meet people at this hotel as it was mainly couples and families staying here.

I must say there staff do care. It is one of those rare hotel which is not 5 star however they deserve to be 5 star. Cleaning was perfect, staff was good, location was amazing for restaurants, even renting scooter and car.

Modest breakfast and poor noise insulation of the balcony door. Across the street there is a restaurant with live music every night and you just can't sleep because of the noise.
